"A man is what he does. The Mason's life and worth is not measured by wealth, fame, or fortune, but by faithful, consistent, and unselfish service. In like manner, the measure and worth of any institution is the effect it has upon the individual and society."

Consolation Lodge #3 , founded in 1866 was originally located in Scuffletownship on the Old Buncombe Rd, near Old Miles Place and across from Antioch AME Church. It survived during the period when negroes were only afraid to be Masons but forbidden to gather in numbers for mass meetings. Members from other counties had their meeting places burned and met in secret with Consolation Lodge. With faith in God and continuous prayers Negro Masons were eventually able to meet in peace. The lodge building at the time served as both a schoolhouse and a meeting place. In the late 20's a stove set off a fire that destroyed the original structure , but a few brave brothers kept the name in the Grand Lodge even though they had no place to meet.

st. johns day
St. John the Baptist was a man of character and integrity, and someone we would all do well to emulate. John was a humble man, in the best sense of the word. John preached a message of repentance. Repentance means more than just saying that, "you are sorry." The Greek word "metanoia," from which the word "repentance" comes literally means, "to turn around." In other words, John urged his followers to literally turn around and move in a new direction, i.e., to move toward God. In him, we have a singular instance of purity, of zeal, simplicity of manners, and an ardent wish to benefit mankind by his example. To him we are indebted for the introduction of that grand tenet of our institution, which it is our glory to support: Peace on earth and good will toward men. By history and tradition, the Craft holds in veneration the Festival Day of St. John the Baptist on June 24th of each year
John the Evangelist gives us a means to find resonance with the holiday of giving and compassion to the fraternity of brotherly love, relief, and truth.Winter is said to be represented by the Saint John the Evangelist, whose feast day falls on December 27th. This Holy Saint John has an interesting symbolic significance, in that, as John the Baptist (who represents the other Holy Saint John) was the precursor to the coming Christ, John the Evangelist is said to be the first disciple at the Lake of Genesareth who recognized the Christ and believe that he had risen. Of the Saint, it is also said that he was the only disciple of Christ to not to forsake him in the hour of His Passion at the foot of the cross. John the Evangelist is also called the Apostle of Charity, which may be in part, his connection to Freemasonry in addition to his unwavering resolve and purity of his love of the divine.
prince hall day
Prince Hall, our Founder, was one of our great Americans; a Worthy Grand Master associated with our first Grand Lodge and its expansion. His name is carried and borne by our Masonic organizations in the United States, and thousands of Masons, who regard themselves as descendants from the Grand Lodge of England from which received his authority more than two centuries ago. Each year all masonic brethren across the state of South Carolina and our nation celebrate him on this day.
