OUR VISION IS TO ENGAGE, TRAIN, AND EMPOWER THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS.
The teachings of the Youth Knights provide the substance which eliminates Pythagoras members from the role of those recognized in juvenile delinquency. Many Pythagoreans will soon be in places of power and prominence. Members of Pythagoras are the heritage from which are provided the leaders of tomorrow. Many young men of today need Pythagorean teaching and high principles in their formative years of life to adulthood. It is comforting to note that the principles and truth of Masonic teachings date back to the very beginning of time, and these provide the guidance, advice and counsel through which Pythagoreans may prosper. By following these teachings, the leaders of our boys believe that young men learn to be better citizens and leaders, thereby providing a better world of tomorrow.

What is the order of the knights of pythagoras?
The Order of the Knights of Pythagoras is an organization composed of youths ranging from seven to twenty years (may vary in some states) of age inclusive, working under the sponsorship and personal supervision of Prince Hall Masons, to provide beneficial use of their spare time, worthwhile companions, wholesome, educational environment, and a program aiming to interest and aid youths, in their all-round development.
What is a youth knight?
A Youth Knight is a young man between the ages of 6 through 18 who will carry on what we have begun. The Knight is going to sit where we are, and when we are gone; he will attend to those things that we think are important. We can adopt all the policies, but how they will be carried out will depend upon the type of training that a Knight will receive today from us. The Youth Knight will take over our Colleges and Universities, Churches, even our State and Nation Governments. Our work will be judged on how well we, as Prince Hall Masons, have prepared our Youth Knights. The future will be in their hands.
What is a sir knight?
The Master Mason or Sir Knight, often becomes a second father to the young men and boys who look up to him for guidance and support. The Sir Knight is always there to help his young Knights with problems that they want to discuss. He becomes a source of information and wisdom, but more importantly someone who cares. Although Sir Knights provide their young Knights with support, independent thinking is stressed above all. The Sir Knights may act like a father in many ways, but he gives room for growth and emphasizes that the young Knights must learn to make decisions on his own. The Sir Knights are always striving together to prepare our Youth Knights to be leaders for tomorrow. The purpose being to teach the principles of good citizenship and be trained in the values of charity and benevolence, the virtues of a wholesome and good life.
what do we teach?
From their first entrance into a council of the Knights of Pythagoras, as a candidate of initiation, the Youths are presented impressive lessons, free from hilarity and horseplay. The investure is built around the nine Cardinal virtues of the Order: Adoration and Reverence for God, Love of Parents, Righteous Thinking, Purity, Patriotism, Toleration, Courtesy, Friendship and Constancy.
The order embraces no particular creed but teaches faith in the one living and true God.
While the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras has its ritual with its secret signs, words, etc., it has no secrets to withhold from the world regarding its aims in making its members better sons and better youths than they have ever been before.

the blue & gold banquet
Each year our district holds a banquet to honor and support he members of The Knights of Pythagoras. It is a great time that brings awareness to the community of who we are and what we do in assisting the development of our youth. In addition, it gives parents an opportunity to meet the brothers of our district and help us to celebrate their children.
kop state assemblage
The Knights of Pythagoras uses the art of mentoring, communication, and technology as its platform, which is essential in building a positive and well balanced youth. Each year in June, The South Carolina Order of Knights of Pythagoras hosts its annual Youth Conference in a unified location of the state. Our purpose in planning this conference is to empower and educate our youth from ages of 6 to 18 by mentoring, which includes providing support, education, and leadership training within various activities while addressing issues concerning today’s youth. The Annual Assemblage is the pinnacle program for our state and it is our hope and prayer that every young man in our district will be in attendance, and be able to participate each year.
kop youth day
Youth day is an annual event held in the fall for the Knights of Pythagoras from around our state. They attend actives planned by South Carolina State University and our State Director Graham. The youth get to enjoy time spent with other youths of their age from surrounding districts, playing football, fellowship, and attending a football game with the Sir Knights.
history of the order of the knights of pythagoras
The Grand Masters of Prince Hall Masons, under the leadership of Grand Master Amos T. Hall, President, no doubt looked far ahead of time when they selected the name "Order of Pythagoras" instead of the "Chivalric Order of Knight Companions" during their Annual National Conference, May 8 - 10, 1951, in the City of Denver, Colorado. Grand Master P. G. Porter of Kansas, was elected the Supreme Master Knight of the International Supreme Council of the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras, August 17, 1958, at the National Supreme Councils of the Knights, Chicago, Illinois. Grand Masters and representatives of twenty Prince Hall Masonic Jurisdictions worked untiringly in promoting this Order. Operating under the name of Pythagoras, the name given and adopted by the Masonic and religious thinkers, offers a challenge to both the youth and the Masonic youth leaders who are striving for high attainment.
Who was pythagoras?Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher, or student of knowledge, who lived about 2,500 years ago. He worked in the fields of music and geometry. He formed a religious society and wrote a general account of the world. Very little is known about the life of Pythagoras. He was born on the Island of Samos, near Greece. Later, he lived in Crotona, in the Southern part of Italy.
It was there that he formed a religious brotherhood and the members of this brotherhood lived according to rules that Pythagoras laid down - such as one that forbade the eating of beans. The group believed that after men died their souls went into other bodies, sometimes in the bodies of animals. This idea, called transmigration of the soul, appeared in many early religions. It is still the belief of many of the Hindu sects of India. It is felt that Pythagoras may have obtained some of his ideas during his travels in the East. The people were suspicious of the Pythagorean brotherhood because its members were aristocrats. Many of them were killed in a political uprising. Historians do not know whether Pythagoras left the city before the outbreak of violence and escaped death, or was killed in it. The brotherhood of aristocrats was finally destroyed in 400 B. C. Pythagoras believed that the earth was spherical and the sun, moon, and planets have movements of their own. His successors developed the idea that the earth revolved about a central fire. This belief anticipated the Copernican Theory of the universe. As a philosopher, Pythagoras taught that numbers were the essence of all things. Therefore, he associated numbers with various colors and ideas. |
